St. Lucy (A.K.A. Lucia) was a young martyr, who gave her life in the 4th century. Not much is truly know about her, but you can read the stories that have been handed down through the centuries HERE.  Lucy, who\’s name means \”Light\”, is celebrated on December 13th. Her feast once coincided with the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year before calendar reforms, so her feast day become the festival of light.
Her ornament depicts a girl dressed for the festival of light.

To make this ornament you will need:

  • red felt
  • white felt
  • yellow felt
  • orange-yellow felt
  • tan or peach felt
  • black felt
  • gray felt
  • green felt
  • silver glitter glue (optional)
  • gold glitter glue (optional)
  • scissors
  • hot glue or felt glue
  • thread and needle for the looped hanger
Cut out the shapes like those above, or purchase the pattern (I\’ll be posting that soon).
First add the dress to the black background. Then add her head and the two back candles.
Now, add her hair. Add the next two candles.
Add the wreath and fill the wreath with the berries. Place her sash at her waist.
Finally, put her tray at the ends of her arms and add the pastries to the tray. Now, cut off the extra background and add your looped hanger.
If you wish you can decorate the ornament with silver and gold glitter glue. Add gold glitter glue to the yellow flames and silver glitter glue to the black background.
That\’s it! Enjoy!
St. Lucy, Pray for us!
God bless,
~Jennifer and Elizabeth
